Elizabeth Arden Mascaras
Elizabeth Arden is a Canadian woman who began a cosmetic company in the United States during the early 1900s. She was born Florence Nightingale Graham. At 24, Elizabeth Arden dropped out of nursing school and worked for E.R. Squibb Pharmaceuticals company where she started to learn about skincare and cosmetics. In 1909, she began a business partnership with one Elizabeth Hubbard. However, this partnership didn't last long. She then coined the name Elizabeth Arden from the combination of her former partner's name and the title of her favorite Alfred Tennyson poem, "Enoch Arden."
The first products of her company was the Venetian Cream Amoretta and the matching skin lotion, the Arden Skin Tonic. Elizabeth Arden was known to be the first cosmetics company to advertise in movie houses and revolutionised the "total look," wherein a woman's cheeks, lips and fingernails had matching colors. The year 1915 saw the expansion of the Elizabeth Arden name worldwide. Her famous brands during this time were used by high-profile personalities such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth and Marilyn Monroe, to name a few.
